Yesterday, Brian Clark (aka Copyblogger) tweeted:
57% Check Facebook Every Day, 91% Check Email – copy.bz/HQ5EwG
— Brian Clark (@copyblogger) April 17, 2012
Brian was referring to Jon Thomas‘ post earlier this week where the latter has quoted ExactTarget‘s recent findings from a truly interesting 2012 Channel Preference Survey:
So, 91% check their email daily (and 77% name it as “their preferred channel for permission-based promotional messages”). Additionally, besides what’s also reflected above other studies reveal that between 27% [see here] and 34% [source] of consumers use their mobile devices to check that email. Combine this with Michael Becker‘s recent statement that by 2015 more people will access the Internet via mobile than wire line broadband [video here], and the latter percentages will most likely only increase with time.
Mobile is an extremely powerful medium. Combined with email it can exemplify a nearly perfect marketing marriage.
Are you keeping the above data in mind? Are your emails optimized to deliver the best experience when viewed on mobile devices? Are the landing pages you’re calling them to visit optimized for mobile?
Hi Geno,
I completely missed this infographic and research yesterday so thanks for sharing it on Bizsugar.
Mobile and email are perfect partners, I agree. I shared a stage last month with a web development company which pretty much suggested that we create mobile versions of our website rather than mobile apps. They explained that it was all down to the individual business and their needs.
They recommended looking at your analytics to see how many people view your website using mobile devices to help you prioritise whether you need to design your site and email marketing for mobile…today or yesterday! I think it’s a matter of time before these two invite others to their wedding or that people are scrambling to get an invite!
Thanks for sharing – it really has made me think more about it.
Take care,
Denise
Denise, glad you have enjoyed the post, and thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes, looking at analytics to prioritize optimization efforts is definitely helpful. There are also solutions where one can detect the end-user’s mobile device serving them the most suitable “version” of our website… You’re right, “today or yesterday” we all need to optimize our sites and email for mobile. Exactly my point.
